A community room at the station has been named in honour of a local activist

A Bristol police station has reopened to the public today (May 22) after being closed since December for ‘vital’ refurbishment work to take place.

The reopening of the enquiry office at Broadbury Road Police Station has also seen the official opening of the Casey Community Room in honour of local community activist, Carol Casey.

The station, on Broadbury Road in Knowle West, will now be going through the next stages of refurbishment to improve its efficiency and modernise the facility.

Response and Neighbourhood Policing Teams will continue to be based out of Broadbury Road during the work and Avon & Somerset Police say it will not affect the number of police officers and PCSOs in the area.

Deputy chief constable Jon Reilly, who visited the station upon the enquiry office’s reopening, said: “It's great to be back at Broadbury Road Police Station to reopen the enquiry office – it's where I started my career, and I always enjoy coming back.

“It's important to keep improving our stations, and enquiry offices are a big part of the service we can provide for our communities.

“They're the first point of contact for people when they walk into a police station. They also handle online crime reports, process intelligence, deal with seized vehicles, and much more.”

Neighbourhood chief inspector for south Bristol, Stephanie McKenna, added: “Our whole team at Broadbury Road are passionate about the service we provide to the community here in south Bristol.

“It is the reason we come into work every day, and this refurbishment will ensure we are able to continue supporting the community for many years to come.”

Casey, who already has a road named after her in Knowle West, commented: “It was quite a shock when I found out about the room, and I feel very privileged. I’d like to thank Jon and Steph for this honour.”

The Broadbury Road Police Station enquiry office will be open between 10am-6pm, Monday-Friday.
