The site of a much-loved nightclub in Bristol has been put on the market ahead of plans to transform it into a multi-use development with 46 homes and business space.

The Old Bottle Works and Former Coroners Court - which are home to Lakota - have gone up for sale for an undisclosed price.

It comes more than four years after plans were first approved for the Upper York Street site in Stoke Croft - despite 290 objections and an 8,000-signature petition.

The proposed scheme includes a mix of one-bed, two-bed and three bed apartments - 20 per cent affordable - as well as one split-level commercial unit.

It will see the conversion and extension of the four-storey Old Bottle Works and three-storey Grade II listed Former Coroners Court, alongside the erection of a new four-storey building.

According to the property listing by JLL and CJ Hole, vacant possession can be provided at completion of the sale.

But it adds that the vendors of the site are currently looking at options for the continuation of their business under their brand Lakota.

Back in 2020, campaign group Save Bristol Nightlife described closing the club, which opened in 1992, as a "huge loss".

Lakota owners the Burgess family first unveiled the plans in October 2018, announcing in a statement: “It's the right time for us to explore new opportunities.”
