The Robins have confirmed that they will be playing a match against top-tier opposition in August.

Bristol City have confirmed that they will be playing Willem II in a pre-season friendly at Ashton Gate on Saturday, August 3.

It is the first pre-season match played at the Gate since the Robins hosted Aston Villa in 2021. Their ‘home’ matches have been played at their High Performance Centre training ground for the past few seasons with games being streamed rather than allowing for supporters to attend.

Willem II will be preparing for their first season back in the top-flight of Dutch football after confirming promotion this season. They are currently first in the Eerste Divisie and just need to match or better the result of Roda ahead of their final game of the season on Friday (May 10) against Telstar.

As for City, they will be gearing up for their ninth consecutive season of Championship football. Liam Manning guided the club to an 11th-placed finish, their highest since finishing eighth in 2019 under Lee Johnson.

More plans for pre-season re expected to follow and ticket details for the fixture will be released closer to the time. City know that the 2024/25 season will begin on the weekend of Friday, August 9 to Sunday, August 11 and that they receive their fixtures on Wednesday, June 26.
