To celebrate 30 years of rescuing and rehoming abandoned and unwanted cats and dogs, Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary has partnered with Bristol World to showcase 10 dogs currently hoping for their forever home in the new year.
The dogs included in this article have been handpicked by the team at the animal sanctuary, who are desperate to see them find a loving home. Each dog can be found on the Holly Hedge website with information on age, breed and interactions with children and other pets. Some have specific needs which will require a vetting process by the rehoming team to find their perfect match.
Holly Hedge founder, Pauline Leesome said: “Some come to us with broken hearts, broken bones and broken spirits and it is our mission to put them back together and make them whole again. Holly Hedge receives no government funding and relies on fundraising and the goodwill of our supporters to keep our gates open for the insurmountable numbers of pets needing our help. Please look at our website www.hollyhedge.org.uk to see our animals needing homes and ways in which you can help or donate. Thank you for caring.”
1. Dingo
Dingo is an athletic, healthy dog and in great shape for her age. She loves her walks and relishes a good run. In the home, she is a great companion, and she enjoys a cuddle on the sofa. Dingo is being rehomed due to a change in circumstances that means she is not suited to her home environment. This lovely girl is friendly with people but a little anxious around other dogs, so needs to be the only pet in the home. Dingo has a fear of loud noises and will do her best to get away from them. Therefore, gentle reassurance and distraction is needed at those times to let her know that everything is okay. For Dingo, we are looking for a calm adult-only home where she gets lots of company, ideally in a less built-up area. The Holly Hedge team is happy to share more information on her breed, the Pharaoh Hounds.
2. Yuka
Yuka is being rehomed as he is finding his home environment a little too busy for him This handsome boy is friendly with people, loves a cuddle and enjoys long walk - although he can be hit or miss with other dogs, so would need to be the only pet in the home. For Yuka Holly Hedge is looking for an experienced home ideally of his breed or larger dogs, with someone/people who will have the time and commitment to give him the ongoing training that he will need, as he does like to greet passersby with an enthusiastic high five with both front paws! Yuka would be best suited to a more rural location where he can build a strong bond with his adopter(s) and learn to become a calmer confident lad.
3. Rio
Rio is a German Shepherd and Husky mix. This stunning boy has come into us because a change in circumstances meant he was being left too long on his own. This very handsome boy comes across as being very friendly with people, but this is hiding the fact that he is a little worried and nervous, which is displayed by him jumping up and grabbing. We are working on his recall here in our secure field. But due to his high chase drive, this is and will be a work in progress with any new owner. Our vet has seen Rio and given him a clean bill of health. For Rio we are looking for a very experienced home/owner of his type of breed, in a calm environment. He will need someone/people who will have the time and patience to give ongoing training and further socialising to help him grow into a confident, well balanced lad.
4. Buddy
Handsome Buddy is being rehomed due to his owners finding it difficult to cope with his reactivity towards other dogs. This friendly lad loves long walks, particularly if he can have a paddle en route! He enjoys his toys and loves to play football, but once he has burnt off some energy, he likes nothing more than a cuddle and a fuss to be made of him. Buddy will need to go to someone who has experience of dogs that can be reactive towards other dogs and how to work with that. His new owner(s) will also need to have experience of larger bouncy dogs and be able to continue with his training, ideally in a rural location to help with his reactivity and build his confidence.
